New Crops

Here are my tomato and pepper seedlings. I have two more trays that have not sprouted yet.

Trying This Again

I didn't keep up with this blog but I had good intentions. So going forward I'm going to post more often and keep everyone updated on what is going on.

New Beginnings

This is my first post on this blogging site. My family and I moved to the panhandle of Texas to be closer to my Grandma. We were given a house that sits on about 3/4 of an acre. Our idea is to transform this house and land into our own mini-farm. I have decided that tomorrow is the day that I put in full time work and will only take Sunday's off. I do plan on applying for a business license and run this as a small scale farm. Will I make millions off of this? No, not at all. For the first year I expect to break even. Here are some things in the first year that we will focus on:

1) Chickens-Will raise about 20 chickens for eggs and about 50 chickens for meat.
2) Rabbits-Will be raised to be sold and used for meat.
3) Goats-Will be raised for their milk and meat.
4) Veggies and Herbs-Will be raising them year round in raised beds with row covers and maybe a small hoop house.

Eventually I wouldn't mind adding in bees and fruit trees. Tomorrow begins the first day of the rest of my life as a mini-farmer.
